a WARRIOR PRINCESS of yesterday, today & tomorrow

In the last year, we witnessed the emergence of combat wear in the fashion scene. For a great part of the year, streets grazed of gladiator shoes and heavy belts. A distinctive regard was also given to epaulettes which were originally utilized in the 18th century to indicate rank in the army.
2010 is looking bright and golden, with splashes of black and tribal inspired motif, driven by a futuristic force and a lot of attitude, as it journeys further back in history to adapt and reinvent attire of a more ancient assemblage of soldiers.
2010's warrior look is a coalescence of hard, masculine elements and historical rudiments from military costumes of Byzantine Empire, Celtic Tribes and Greek Amazons, translated in a powerful clothe for a modern princess. For Spring/Summer 2010, the runway has showcased some of the finest of this trend with creations by Rodarte, Todd Lynn and Sass & Bide.

It is often said that trends are an output of the people’s reactions to events or global changes. A figurative use of the term, warrior, is of a person who shows great vigor, courage, or aggressiveness towards ordeals. With this in mind, I can only cheerfully hope that the warrior trend is a fruit of our intended disposition in tackling 2010.
