This outfit basically just works because you have the oversized hobo bag, black flats and long vest. I quite like it because it
isn’t too loud in terms of color or jewelry but it just goes to show you that key pieces can make simple t-shirt and jeans look ‘trendy’.
Hobo bags are obviously still in the ‘peak’ stage not only because of its trendiness but also for its practicality. Black Flats however is also at its peak but I think it’s slowly declining it terms of simple black flats since color is the big trend this season. But don’t fret I personally think that black flats is something that every stylish woman should have in her closet. It will always be a classy piece that can go with anything. Although long vests were a big trend for a while, it’s also slowly declining, but it’ll always be a great way to give a slimmer look.
This entire look started from celebrities and designers. Therefore, it falls under the trickle down theory.
The Hobo bag was popularized during the 60’s though 70’s, it was described as just a sack or bindle. It’s popular for it’s bohemian style.
Long vests, or waistcoat as it’s known to the English, almost has the same theme as the very popular boyfriend jacket but in this case it’s in a vest form. It was common to the commonwealth countries but was popular to King Charles ll of England.
We all know where black flats first became popular. But for those who don’t well shame on you! Audrey Hepburn was known for her uniqueness during a time when Marylin Manroe was ‘the’ American style figure. Audrey Hepburn later became the style icon for her boyish figure and classy style. Which included Black leggings and black flats.
This particular outfit has all the right elements to it, but the dress has a sort of baby doll essence to it, which is a trend that has long been dead. Now if it were a long sundress, maybe even with a bohemian twist to it then it would’ve been a great look.
Gladiator shoes are still at its peak. Why do you ask? Because designers are constantly designing new styles for the Gladiator sandal, maybe add a heel over here, more straps up top, or how about a few leather fringes here and there.
However baby doll dresses are on the decline. These dresses are cute to wear to a Sunday lunch with your family but it’s something that serves as a quick 1-2-3 look. Wherein you have nothing else to wear but this so you throw on that dress and pair of thongs and TA-DA! A look. I probably wouldn’t even consider it a designer look anymore because this coming season is all about flowing fabrics and layering.
This look, especially the Gladiator shoes started from the bottom. So it falls under the trickle up theory.
Gladiator shoes obviously started in ancient Rome but became popular with designers because it gave their garments a more exotic and sexy loo
k. This inspiration probably started with the release of the movie Gladiator, starring actors like Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix.
Baby doll dresses were popularized by the famous ‘Twiggy’ around the 60’s and 70’s.
AC+637 is located on the 2nd floor of Greenbelt 5. This store is particularly unique because they don’t sell your typical modern items unlike what most new stores are doing today. This store is doing the complete opposite. They sell the most unique and unusual vintage items, including clothes. And they sell all these things at reasonable prices. Their sales strategy is a very friendly and home-like environment. The it
ems for sale are displayed in an almost museum style without making the merchandise seem too ancient.
The ‘lifestyle’ trend that I got from this store is Fantasy Adventure. A lot of the clothes and merchandise they sell in this store look like they come from other countries and I think to a certain point they actually do. But the point being, to consumers it’s almost like their getting a piece of adventure when they buy something from this store, satisfying a part of themselves that may be lacking.

Greyone Social is a shoe store also located in Greenbelt 5. They sell chic athletic designer shoes and t-shirts.
Their sales strategy is very friendly, and perhaps, almost too friendly. Because as you enter the store I get the impression that I’m meeting my old long lost friend when in fact I’m saying hello to the sales man, who to my surprise, speaks fantastic English and Tagalog. And while looking around the store I don’t feel hounded to buy something on the spot its as though the sales man is just casually talking making friends. The only problem with this sales strategy is that at the end of my browsing experience I feel slightly pressured to buy something because it’s as though I’m letting down a friend by not buying anything.
The ‘lifestyle’ trend of this store is clanning. Because while in the store when you make friends with the sales man it’s like you become part of their club.
