A Woman on the Floor

People have been embracing the new trend that is having art in seemingly wrong places. Art galleries are now found in fashion boutiques, cascading chandeliers found as certerpieces in gallerien. In Germain, a new quirky restaurant in Paris, this trend has been the center of its design aesthetic. The restaurant features a massive sculpture that is showcased in, not only it’s first floor but through all three floors of the restaurant. The sculpture is of a yellow woman in heels and an overcoat. It transcends through the floors of all three storeys.

Sitting in a restaurant that has a gigantic woman on its floors creates a feeling of being in a world that can only be imagined (fantasy adventure). Sitting on the first floor, the patron feels like he is in a swanky restaurant that only the “cool kids” go to because of the funky and modern furniture (small indulgences). The VIP floor, however, has the comfortable feel of a house and is creates the atmosphere of hominess and ease (cocooning). The restaurant breaks the norms of art that is seen in a store, restaurant or any establishment. Massive sculptures are seen everywhere but it is very uncommon to see a piece of art that is attached to the floors of all three levels (pleasure revenge).
