Fashionistas Out and About by Paola Lorenzo

Being a paparazzi for a day was actually fun, though at some point it got tiring because of all the running after and hiding behind the bushes we needed to do. So of all the fashionistas I was able to capture on that day, I narrowed down my list to three.

The picture above is one of a lady wearing a black men’s inspired top with studs, boyfriend jeans and sexy high heels. This trend is actually still peaking as of the trends of Fall 2009. In the runways of Balmain, Versace, Lanvin, Sophia Kokosalaki, Lowe, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior and Charlotte Ronson. Hardware glam is definitely back this fall. Punk is experiencing an immense revival, with studs of all shapes and sizes in every clothing and accessory piece imaginable. The stud trend goes hand in hand with the leather craze the fashion world is currently in.

Fashionista number two is the epitome of the one shoulder trend. Not too keen on having the oversized and overemphasized shoulder? This is another way to flaunt your shoulders but in a subtler way. Designers such as Alexander Wang, Derek Lam, Balmain, Miu Miu, Marchesa, Versace and Chloe utilized this trend for Fall 2009. The one-shoulder trend was popularized during the 50’s and 60’s by the ancient world movies in Hollywood. This approach is trend is booming because of the romantic and sensual approach it provides women.

Animal prints are also showing up this season. It can be seen in the runways of Ruffian, Ashish and Topshop to name a few. Though usually these are epitomized in the form of leggings and party dresses, such prints may be also be seen in bangles and bags. Moreover, there has been a dramatic increase in other types of prints such as zebra, cow and giraffe. Animal prints started back in the 90’s. Such were created for the army as a form of camouflage.
