CUBAO EXPO...good enough reason to voluntarily brave the EDSA traffic

I wonder why we can't have more of these non-mainstream art districts around Metro Manila... Thank God for Cubao X. Stepping into this inconspicuous loop at the heart of Araneta Center filled with vintage shops, art galleries, dive bars and resataurants is truly a breath of (not so) fresh air in the city. Admittedly, I am a mall rat, but I am a mall rat that is sick of seeing the same thing over and over again. There is no doubt that I enjoy the fashion/retail industry (heck, I live and eat it for breakfast!) but I always appreciate the rare moments that I spot true design and raw art in the flesh. Especially if it is one-of-a-kind, hidden in some hole in the wall and more importantly unseen on a Guadalupe billboard. Cubao X is not the prettiest shopping venue to explore, but given its relaxed artsy vibe, unique merchandise selection and the interesting hang-out spots, it is enough reason for me to brave the Edsa traffic. My personal favorites, HEIMA (home decor), I LOVE YOU (fashion&lifestyle) and Bellissima (Italian resto thas serves the best iced tea). All I can say is: KUDOS to those who thread the road less-travelled, in the hopes of sharing their art and ideas in underrated places like these. MAKATI X, anyone?!?
